Useful Tips

Although a friendly and hospitable place to visit certain things must be kept in mind while visiting Pune.

  • Take care to respect religious sentiments in the region. Pune, like any other city with traditional roots, views its culture strictly. Basic things like taking shoes off before entering temples and such are a must
  • Avoid public displays of affection
  • Beware of scams and fraudsters. Be careful while buying anything and examine items thoroughly
  • While traveling by trains, always chain your luggage. By no means leave your luggage unattended
  • Shop where you choose and not at places where the taxi takes you when you ask it to find you a market. And remember to bargain except in fixed-price stores
  • Avoid persistent taxi drivers and shopkeepers – it is better to avoid them
  • Dress as casually as possible but never scantily. It is better to never appear lost
  • Do your homework before a visit and decide places to visit rather than just going by word of mouth
  • While the nightlife of Pune definitely does not disappoint, remember to always be on your guard
  • It is best to visit nightclubs in groups and not individually
