Getting Around Pune

The authorized public bus operator is the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML). The PMPML is notable for the operation of its Public Bus Rapid Transit System which uses dedicated bus lanes to ensure fast travel. Private operators are also found throughout the city.
Railways are also efficient and Pune Railway Station located in the city and Shivajinagar Railway Station are both administered by the Pune Railway Division which is a part of the Central Railways. Local trains function throughout the city and serve the public transportation needs.
Pune International Airport is situated at Lohagaon. It provides international and domestic flights to nearly all major cities of India. Railways have long been the backbone of the Pune transport network with Shivajinagar and Pune stations located in the heart of the city providing quality service.
Transportation in this city is pretty easy to find and there are a lot of bus tours and therefore you can avail of these services for several tours to most of the popular sites. As for taxis, there are several agencies like Classic Taxi Services and others.
Pune Weather
Pune, second largest among the cities of Maharashtra, is situated on the western side of the state on the leeward side of the Western Ghats. It was founded in 937 and is one of the most important metropolitan cities of Maharashtra. The eighth most populous conurbation in the subcontinent and comprising a community of multilingual and multicultural people, Pune was witness to the glorious Maratha Empire, the heritage of which can be found scattered throughout the state.
The climate of this city is relatively balanced and therefore one can visit throughout the year but be warned: March – May is hot. . During the month of September there are a lot of festivals happening in this city. Summer in Pune, from April to June, with temperatures ranging from 22ºC to 30ºC typically is too hot to plan a visit.
So is the wet Monsoon or rainy season starting from July to October with the city experiencing a high amount of rainfall. The winter season is relatively cool with temperatures hovering around 8ºC to 15ºC and is an ideal time to visit the state. Summer, monsoon and winter are the major seasons into which the climatic pattern can be segregated.
Summer months extend from March to May and the temperatures ranging from 20ºC to 30ºC with plenty of sunlight.
The monsoon or rainy season extends from June to October and temperatures stay in the range of 18ºC to 25ºC. The rainfall is aided by the fact it is situated on the leeward sides of the Ghats and a major portion of the total annual rainfall is witnessed during these months. November to February extends the months of winter and the temperatures hover in the range of 15ºC to 5ºC.

- Take care to respect religious sentiments in the region. Pune, like any other city with traditional roots, views its culture strictly. Basic things like taking shoes off before entering temples and such are a must
- Avoid public displays of affection
- Beware of scams and fraudsters. Be careful while buying anything and examine items thoroughly
- While traveling by trains, always chain your luggage. By no means leave your luggage unattended
- Shop where you choose and not at places where the taxi takes you when you ask it to find you a market. And remember to bargain except in fixed-price stores
- Avoid persistent taxi drivers and shopkeepers – it is better to avoid them
- Dress as casually as possible but never scantily. It is better to never appear lost
- Do your homework before a visit and decide places to visit rather than just going by word of mouth
- While the nightlife of Pune definitely does not disappoint, remember to always be on your guard
- It is best to visit nightclubs in groups and not individually
