India Nightlife

As a rule, traditional Indians did not used to believe in nightlife and its associated activities. However with Western influences and work ethics coming in, the rules of the game have changed. Most big towns and cities have pubs and discos that are open all through the week. Even then the major crowds will only surface on the weekends yet from time to time some events are organized which will draw in the crowds.

Mumbai Nightlife

While going to a disco or drinking in a pub are part of the nightlife scene in Mumbai, most people prefer to drive around and eat at roadside eateries, and to stroll along the beaches. Marine Drive, Chowpatty beach, Nariman Point and Fort Road are fairly active places at night with shops and restaurants open well past 23:00.  (Read more...)

New Delhi Nightlife

Stand-alone pubs and discos are not very reputable in Delhi and if you are looking for a safe place to go it is better to head for the ones that are situated inside some of the hotels. The best days to hit the pubs and discos, if you are looking at a decent crowd, are Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The other days the locals rarely go out.  (Read more...)

Bangalore Nightlife

This is one of the few cities in India which is actually known for its nightlife. In a conservative country where half the population has never set foot inside a disco, this city is full of places where you can have fun at night. The aptly named 'Pub City' has too many places worth visiting to list and it'll be up to you to discover the less obvious ones. Chennai Nightlife

A typical night out in Chennai usually consists of the family unit going out to catch a movie and eating dinner in a restaurant. There is no drinking in the traditional family as it is frowned upon. While the youngsters today are changing, the city still has a long way to go before its nightlife can be favourably compared with Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore.   (Read more...)

Kochi Nightlife

Kochi is a traditional Indian municipality which has suddenly found itself playing host to foreigners since the tourist industry has arrived in town. As such there is only one decent pub in Kochi, although smaller and more modest entertainment venues do exist, although just for males. Traditionally, ladies do not go out alone. Kerala Nightlife

The state is not approving of discos and pubs in general and traditional nightlife usually revolves around eating out and maybe going to see a movie. The Kannada language theatre may not be as huge as the Tamil one, but it is quite popular in the state. Goa Nightlife

Given Goa's recent history as a place where hordes of hippies 'turned on, tuned in and dropped out' one would be forgiven for thinking that a typical Goan nightlife scenario would have a lot to do with dancing half-naked around a beach campfire but no; Goa surprises in that it is a popular casino destination so dreadlocks and sarongs are replaced by well-groomed hair and formal clothing.
