Mumbai Area Guides

Everything you Need to Know about Mumbai Areas

Formerly known as Bombay, this is the financial capital of India. It hosts the Bombay Stock Exchange on Dalal Street and all major Indian and multinational businesses have their head offices here, mostly in the southern part of the city. It is also the film-making centre for Hindi cinema. 'Bollywood' as it is known, is said to churn out more than 200 movies every year. Most film stars have their homes in the northern suburbs of the city.

Mumbai is a vibrant city in which you can hear of rags-to-riches stories almost everyday. A magnet for people from all over the country, the biggest challenge faced by the city today is its bursting population. Presented to the British by a Portuguese princess, this city was originally a collection of seven fishing villages; some of the villages being located on islands away from the mainland. Land reclamation drives have made it what is it today.

Dubbed as 'The City That Never Sleeps', you will find activity on its streets any time of the night or day. It's a fairly safe city with a culture that allows an unescorted woman to return home from work past midnight without fearing for her safety.
