Hyderabad Shopping

Where to Shop and What to Buy in Hyderabad

Intro (200) Hyderabad is fast becoming a shopping destination in India, especially with mega-sized shopping malls sprouting up all over the city like mushrooms after a rainy night. The shopping centres are huge and well-equipped with the best amenities and stores that feature both internationally well-known brands as well as home-grown ones. Travelers who grow weary of gargantuan sprawling malls will want to visit some of the smaller ones for a more intimate shopping experience.

Most shoppers, be they locals or otherwise, are treated equally by the friendly mall staff. Most have been trained to be professional and accommodating at all times, and tourists frequently report how satisfied they were with their shopping experience in Hyderabad, thanks to the helpful and ever-smiling store attendants.

Ashoka Metropolitan

The Ashoka Metropolitan Mall has everything a shopper can possibly want under a single roof. It may not be the biggest mall in Hyderabad, but it is certainly one that is well worth your while to visit during a lazy weekend. What makes it special is the layout of the stores as well as ample signages to direct shoppers to wherever they need to go, be it the nearest washroom or the food court.

Babukhan Mall

The Babukhan Mall may not be a huge sprawling complex but it does offer plenty of shops for your shopping convenience. Brigade Road

Brigade Road

This street actually comes at a crossroad to MG Road. You can pick up all kinds of electronic goods here from a walkman to a washing machine. You can also find the official handicrafts showroom of Tamil Nadu state known as Poomp Puhar on Brigade Road. The other Indian states also have their handicraft showrooms nearby on Residency Road. These include Gangotri from Uttar Pradesh, Mrignayani from Madhya Pradesh, Utkalika from Orissa, and Gujari from Gujrat.

All these showrooms showcase the art, crafts, textiles, pottery and any special handicrafts produced by the respective states – a nice place to go hunting for little treasures and decorative artifacts. As they are fixed price showrooms with the price list being decided by the government, there is no danger of paying anything extra.

Location: Just five minutes from MG Road in central Bangalore.

City Centre Mall

City Centre Mall

Nothing negative can be said about the City Centre Mall, really. The massive complex has four whole levels, all dedicated to housing a mind-boggling array of fashion brand names, restaurants and other internationally well known outlets. There is nothing tacky about the City Centre Mall although its name sounds pretty common for one of the coolest malls in the city of Hyderabad. What travelers love most about the mall is that every bit of space is utilized wisely - nothing looks cramped and this gives shoppers greater comfort as they trawl the floor looking for the best bargains.

Opening Hours: 10:00 - 22:00
Location: City Center Mall, Level 0, Road # 1, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad

GVK One

GVK One

What sets the GVK One mall apart from the rest is its sheer size and vast retail potential. The mall is every bit as wonderful as it looks from the outside as well as the inside. First time visitors will be impressed by the aquatic display that greets them at the massive entrance, while seasoned shoppers will quickly scan the interior for any new stores that may have opened in their absence. International fashion brand names such as MNG, Charles and Keith, Esprit and CK are readily available here, much to the delight of shoppers both local and foreign.

Opening Hours: 10:00 - 22:00
Location: Road No. 1, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad

Hyderabad Central

Hyderabad Central

Three things come to mind when the Hyderabad Central mall is mentioned - food, shopping, and movies. Shoppers both young and old flock to the Hyderabad Central for a delicious array of restaurants and cafes, while fashionistas will appreciate the fact that there are 300 clothing brands to select from in this sprawling mall. Youths will typically make a beeline for the PVR Cinemas located at the higher levels during weekends for an afternoon of relaxing movie experience - the cineplex is fully equipped to show the latest Bollywood, Tollywood and of course, Hollywood hits.

Opening Hours: 10:30 - 21:30
Location: Panjagutta X Roads, Panjagutta, Hyderabad

Inorbit Mall

Inorbit Mall

With a total built up area of almost 700,000 sq ft, the Inorbit Mall is a huge sprawling complex that will have hardcore shoppers laughing all the way to the shops in glee. Constantly compared to the GVK One mall due to its similarity in size, shoppers in Hyderabad know that this is where the similarity ends. Inorbit Mall was carefully planned and designed to offer a shopping experience unlike any other. Rather than have shops and stalls clumped together messily, they are situated strategically throughout the mall. Shoppers love the fact that there are plenty of seats under indoor trees and greenery that provide a brief respite from the heat and exhaustion.

Opening Hours: 11:00 - 21:30
Location: Opposite I-Labs Building, Hitech City, Madhapur, Hyderabad

Lad Bazaar

Historical records dictate that a concubine of the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad called Ladli Begum was the founder of the Lad Bazaar. Also occasionally known as Lord’s Bazaar, this street is a treasure trove for all things charming and quaint. From traditional footwear to fashion, accessories, household goods and trinkets, everything is virtually available in the stalls crammed into the streets of Lad Bazaar. However, pearls and jewellery are bestsellers in these parts and travelers have been known to ardently bargain for these items from early dawn to dusk at the Lad Bazaar.

Opening Hours: Morning till late
Location: Lad Bazaar, near Charminar

Mysore Saree Udyog

The south of India is known for its printed silk saris and plain silk saris with gold borders. The best place to get these in Bangalore is at the Mysore Sari Udyog. You will also find shops in the city market and the MG road area selling silk saris, but the quality of silk here is guaranteed top notch. It is a bit more expensive than the bargains you can pick up in city market, but they more than make up for it in quality.

Most silk needs to be dry cleaned and if you ask for thicker silk it can be hand-washed at home you will save on the dry cleaners bill in the long run. Some saris have an attached blouse piece while others will need you to pick a separate matching piece of cloth to make one.

Location: On the first floor of 294 Kamaraj Road, near Commercial Street, five minutes from the city centre by taxi.

Shilparamam

Shilparamam

Tired of the countless shopping malls and bazaars? What about something different in the form of the Shilparamam arts and craft village? A firm favorite with travelers, the arts and crafts village is situated in a piece of land where the verdant greenery of the lush garden will invigorate your mind. It is also a nature trail and cultural centre all rolled into one, all in exchange of the entry fee of 10 rupees. Exquisite pieces and objects can be purchased here, and visitors are sure to take delight in the many quaint stalls selling accessories, fashion items, jewellery, pottery pieces and traditional footwear.

Location: Rangareddy, Jubilee Enclave, Hitech City, Hyderabad

The Bombay Store

Unknown to most first-time shoppers, The Bombay Store has been in existence for more than a 100 years! This century-old brand is not your typical run-of-the-mill general store - it stocks an astonishing array of home accessories and furniture, fashion items and other household goods gorgeously displayed upon shelves and pedestals. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, which is why very rarely do customers walk away feeling unsatisfied. Best sellers here are the local handicraft items and incense sticks as well as exquisitely embroidered cushion covers. Prices are a little higher than your average bazaar but it is the unparalleled shopping experience that counts!

Opening Hours: 11:00 - 21:00
Location: 8-2-602/C, Road Number 10, City Center Mall, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad
